MMPA News & Press
thank god it's thursday at mmpa!
Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates (MMPA) shifted to a four day workweek beginning Monday, July 21, 2008. Employees have the option to work four, ten hour days or four, nine hours days and work the remaining hours at home. The new work week program will run through Labor Day weekend. At that time the firm’s principals will evaluate the schedule and make a decision to continue with the four day work week or return to the conventional five day work week. Office hours for the firm during this time will be Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
By eliminating one work day per week MMPA’s staff automatically saves 20% on fuel costs and the firm reduces its operation costs. As architects and engineers, the firm has been trying to save energy and help the environment by designing high performance buildings, but now they are doing it by working remotely on Friday’s.
Clients will always be MMPA’s first priority. There are always projects on critical schedules that require a little more attention, which may alter summer hour’s schedule. With today’s extensive use of cell phones, text messaging and e-mail as well as remote access to the firm’s computer systems, managing an alternative schedule is a lot less problematic than it used to be. With the firm’s technology MMPA’s staff can make themselves readily available to clients when needed on off days and can complete most tasks from home.

UNCW Herbert & Sylvia Fisher Student Center
The UNCW Herbert & Sylvia Fisher Student Center was one of fourteen student unions showcased in the 2007 edition of The Bulletin published by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
The ACUI’s January 2007 edition included a Renovation and Construction Showcase featuring projects on campuses from coast to coast throughout the United States. The magazine stated, “By sharing these projects, institutions considering a college union renovation or construction can learn more about the various approaches, complexities, and features of the buildings featured in the showcase."

MMPA Project receives national award
The J. Douglas Gaylon Depot won top award in the 2006 Federal Highway Administration’s Excellence in Highways contest in the Intermodal Transportation Facilities category. The Federal agency cited the facility for excellence in architecture, engineering and functionality.
Built in 1927 as a Southern Railway train terminal, the Depot was renovated and reopened in August 2003 to serve as a multi-modal transportation complex.
The lower level of the Depot was designed for use as community and business events as well as AMTRAK functions. The upper level houses the intercity transit and Greyhound functions. The restoration and addition of track side canopies accommodates the transit and Greyhound bus slips.
